Hindrance 11: Disregarding your body

1 Cor 6:19-20 "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." NIV

We are responsible for the earth suit that God has given us. How many times don't we make ourselves sick through unhealthy diets, not doing exercise and excessive worrying! God is more concerned for us than we are about ourselves. He values us so much that He resides in us once we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour.

How would you feel if someone entered your church and started to eat popcorn in the aisle, throwing garbage everywhere? What would your reaction be if he took some alcohol out of his pocket and started to drink in the sanctuary, after having smoked a pack of cigarettes? I don't think you would be too keen to see that person again. But are we any better with the Lord's temple? How are we treating the Temple that the Holy Spirit has given us, our body?

Here is great advice from the apostle Paul: 1 Cor 10:31 "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." NIV

What we do with our body, what we eat, how we exercise, should all be done to the glory of God. I wonder what God would think how I treat His temple?

Sometimes we are the cause of our own diseases and worse of all we do not stop with our unhealthy habits when we are sick. My aunt had laryngectomy and while in the hospital she had a small opening to her stoma. Although she knew that the cause to this surgery was her smoking habit, she would continue smoking by putting her cigarette into that small opening to her stoma. She eventually died from lung cancer.

God cannot heal you my friends for your unhealthy treatment of your body. Put away anything that is unhealthy and start to rely on God's Holy Spirit for proper rest, proper diet and proper exercises.
