Marks of Believers

Introduction:
People are expected to go about their daily life as a
Christian with peculiar marks that should distinguish you
from unbelievers.
PECULIARITY OF BELIEVERS:
II Corinthians 5:17-
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; the
old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God who
reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the
ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the
world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against
them. And he has committed to us the message of
reconciliation”.
I like to summarize for easy understanding the following
marks that you should carry with you as you profess to be a
Christian. Remember some key words in the above passages:
(a) New creation – redeemed (bought back) from the devil who
owned you before.
(b) Old has gone: From God’s point of view you should carry
on yourself guilt any longer. See Romans 5:1-2 “Being
justified by faith through faith, we have gained access by
faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice
in the hope of the glory of God. That is one of the meanings
of “new has come”.
(c) Don’t play with sin: I John 3: 3-6 “Everyone who sins
breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know
that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in
him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No
one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
(d) Keep your mind renewed by the Word! Romans 12:1-2
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to
offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy, and pleasing
to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not
conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be
able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good,
pleasing and perfect will.
Here is the summary of others marks (evidences) as required
by the Scriptures that you must carry about as you proclaim
your new found faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living
God!
{1} Prayer {Matt. 6:11; Lk. 11:3}. We need to pray daily to
God in the name of Jesus.
No Christian is to do any other thing when he/she wakes up
except to first pray.
{2} Cross bearing {Lk. 9:23}. Every believer is to take up
his/her cross daily no matter
how light or heavy. Don’t abandon your cross. Jesus
commanded us to carry it daily.
{3} Continue in one accord {Acts. 2:46}. No believer can
continue for long as a lone
ranger, we need one another. You need other believers’
company.
{4} Teach and preach Jesus {Matt. 26:55; Acts. 5:42}. We
must talk about our saviour
daily. Preach and teach about Jesus daily to both sinners
and saints.
{5} Win souls {Acts. 2:47; 16:5}. As you preach and teach,
let soul winning be your
utmost goal.
{6} Search and discuss scriptures {Acts. 17:11; 19:9}. Our
sustenance is in the bible,
therefore give yourself to searching and discussing its
pages daily.
{7} Carry responsibility {2Cor. 11:28}. All of us are full
of responsibilities; in the
church, at work, at home etc.. Carry your own responsibility
daily.
{8} Exhort one another {Heb. 3:13}. We our brothers’
keepers. Don’t be like Cain, visit
your brothers and sisters, pray for them and encourage them.
Conclusion: When you do all of these daily or as occasion
demands, your life will be full and effective service.
God bless you.
