What was the tree of Life in the Garden and why were Adam and Eve not allowed to eat from it after they sinned?
Gen 2:9 "In the middle of the garden were the tree of life."
That tree of
life, as long as Adam and Eve were eating from it, was given them life, eternal
life. One of the immediate consequences of sin was a complete separation of
humankind from the tree of life. Why? To avoid for them to live forever in
sin!
That tree of life will be available to us once again when God will set His kingdom on earth.
Rev 22:1-3 "Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations." NIV

1Timothy 6:16-AV Who only hath immortality, dwelling in
the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can
see: to whom [be] honour and power everlasting. Amen. ___________________________________________________________
Genesis 2:8-9 says......Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground ~ trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
After they ate of the tree Genesis 3:22-24 says......And the Lord God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
Genesis 1-3 pays humanity its highest compliment. After making all the glories of the world, God topped off his work with man and woman. He put them in charge. Unlike the animals, they were like him, "in his image." "Very good," he said to himself when he had finished. With humans he quit, satisfied. Nobody, including God, has been satisfied with human beings since then. We were made good, but we disobeyed God right from the beginning. We've been suffering the consequences ever since. Genesis helps us understand why the universe is so flagrantly lovely, and yet so tragic. It is lovely because God made it. But it is tragic because he trusted it to us, and we failed.

If Adam and Eve ate of the tree of life, they would have had life eternal. How devastating that would have been! Eternal life in a world controlled by the spirit of evil. The plan of salvation would not have been initiated.

The tree of life is what gave eternal life. The wages of
sin is death. Once Adam and Eve sinned they had to eventually die, so God
could not let them eat from the tree of life anymore. ___________________________________________________________
Because if they had eaten of the tree of life there would
have been no redemption. They would have lived eternally under the curse
caused by disobedience. If there were no death there could have not been a
sacrifice and no redemption. That is why the tree of life will be available
to those who have believed on the one who was sent and who is now at the
right hand of the Father. The sin that separated us from God has been
removed through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Then we can eat freely
thereof.

The tree was the tree of eternal life so if they ate from it, then they would have lived forever in a fallen state. This is why God had to put two Cherubs with flaming torches to guard the entrance, because the Almighty had a plan of redemption. Love

We are all given two choices in this life, the choice to do what God has ask us or the choice to disobey, Both of these choices were available to Adam and Eve. To do Gods will and obey Him gives us the promise of eternal life with Him. Thus THE TREE OF LIFE in the garden. But as we all know to well our first parents chose to disobey God and partook of the other tree, THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL. It seems that when given the choice to chose between good and evil we humans tend to chose the latter. Gen. 3:22-24 Then "the Lord God said" the man has become like one us, to know good and evil. And now least he put forth his hand and take ALSO OF THE TREE OF LIFE AND EAT AND LIVE FOR EVER. therefor God sent him out of the Garden of Eden to till the ground from where he was taken. so He drove out the man and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden. and a flaming SWORD which turned every WAY to guard the WAY TO THE TREE OF LIFE. God could not and will not allow one who chooses to sin to live eternally. Sin is a consuming cancer toat destroys every thing in its path. it has to be stopped. But God in His mercy did not completely take away mans opportunity for eternal life with Him. He only changed the WAY we achieve it. Vs 24 says He placed Cherubim with flaming sWORDS to guard the Way to the TREE OF LIFE. the only way to have eternal life is through Christ Jesus. and the way to Jesus is to know the sWORD of God So you see the TREE IF LIFE is available to those who chose to follow the guarded way. Rev. 2:7 to him who overcomes I will give to eat from the TREE OF LIFE. Libby Knight ___________________________________________________________
The Tree of Life was the Apple Tree. God wouldn't let
them eat from it after they had sinned because they had disobeyed Him
