Is it good for the Christian to say I am a virgo or a leo following the star signs?
Let us answer these questions through a series of questions whose answers will be found in the Holy Scriptures.
1. What does God say about those who consult with astrologers and use astrology for guidance in their lives?
"All the counsel you have received has only worn you out. Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the flame…Each of them goes on in his error; there is not one that can save you."
Astrology is an art of divination, which teaches that the relative positioning in the sky of the Sun, Moon and planets has an influence upon humans and upon the course of human affairs. The word for astrology in the Hebrew language literally means, ‘divining the heavens’. Divination is the act of foretelling future events, or of revealing secret knowledge, by means of signs and omens or other supernatural ways.
2. Does God prohibits the practice of divination?
Leviticus 19:26: "Do not practice divination or sorcery."
When the Israelites were about to enter the Promised Land of Canaan, God warned them not to practice it.
Deuteronomy 18:9, 12 & 14 :
"Do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there…The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so…Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord."
3. Is Divination regarded to be a sin?
1 Samuel 15:23:
"Rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry."
4. Who should we rely for guidance?
When King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, he summoned the magicians, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. How did they respond? Daniel 2:10:
"The astrologers answered the king, ‘There is not a man on earth who can do what the king asks! No king, however great and mighty, has ever asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or astrologer.’"
The astrologers of Babylon could not to help King Nebuchadnezzar with his dream. However, God had blessed his prayerful prophet Daniel with the true gifts of the Holy Spirit, and he was brought before the king to interpret the dream.
"Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, ‘The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers cannot declare to the king. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, were these…’"
With God’s anointing, Daniel was able to describe and explain the king’s prophetic dream.
Even the king had to admit that only God could reveal mysteries:
Dan 2:47 The king said to Daniel, "Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery." Will you trust your Heavenly Father for guidance in your life? He cares for you and is willing to guide you. Will you let Him?
Astrology is one of the arts of witchcraft. It is referred to in the bible as ‘divination’ or the study of ‘times’ and was not to be done by God’s people. Whilst people who use the stars to tell the future may not regard themselves as ‘witches’, this is the term under which God places them along with sorcery (using black magic), necromancy (communicating with the dead - which is actually impossible, one communicates with an evil spirit impersonating the dead one) All these crafts can be summed up in the term 'witch' and are of the 'dark side'. Now let’s have a look at what the bible has to say about it.
Exodus 22:18-AV Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Cop that! This was a law given to Moses for implementation into the civil laws of the new nation of Israel.
Leviticus 19:26-AV Ye shall not eat [any thing] with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times.
This is a reference to enchantment and astrology. We were commanded not to do it, neither to eat anything with blood in it. It is interesting that even today the practice of witchcraft involves the drinking of blood, usually from a slain chook in our country.
Leviticus 19:31-AV Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I [am] the LORD your God.
Leviticus 20:6-AV And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
Leviticus 20:27-AV A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood [shall be] upon them.
Deuteronomy 18:10-AV There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
These few verses give us a good indication of just what God thinks of the 'dark arts'. It makes it abundantly clear that not only are the practitioners to be punished (put to death) but those who use them to be punished also. Anyone who reads star signs, astrology charts or talks to a ‘clairvoyant’ is in this category. All those so called ‘psychics’ that advertise in our papers and magazines, all the astrologers that publish fortunes in the same media, all those who claim to do ‘readings’ and all those who claim to be able to communicate with the dead, are all covered by these scriptures. Since God does not change, it is apparent that according to His laws we should have provision for the death penalty and or exile for these people in our civil laws!
Do these things work or are they just a rip off? I expect most are just complete rip offs, especially the ones you can consult by telephone. However, the bible has records of people who were able to use some of Satan’s power to do these things. The magicians in the court of Egypt for instance, when Moses first confronted the Pharaoh. There is another one in Paul’s writings.
Acts 16:16-AV And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
Acts 16:17-AV The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
Acts 16:18-AV And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
Acts 16:19-AV And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew [them] into the marketplace unto the rulers,
In this example the girl was possessed by an evil spirit that gave her the power to make predictions. Probably short term related to gambling from the context. Horse races or similar I would expect. Something that was within Satan’s power to control and therefore predict the outcome. She would probably do alright today too. The spirit recognized who Paul was and the girl gave utterance to that fact. It seems strange that an agent of the Devil would thus proclaim God, so I draw on the wisdom of Gill to explain.
Ver. 17. "The same followed Paul and us", &c.] Silas, Luke, and Timothy; the Arabic version reads, "the same followed Paul and Silas"; as they were going to the oratory:
"and cried, saying, these men are the servants of the most high" "God"; not of Python, or Apollo, as she and her masters were; or of any of the deities of the Gentiles; nor of sin, nor of Satan, nor of men, but of the one only true and living God, one of whose titles is ^Nwyle^, "Elion", the "Most High", "#Ge 14:22 Ps 83:18" and these men were his servants, not merely by right of creation, as all men are, or should be; nor only through the power of divine grace upon their souls, bringing them into a willing obedience to him, as all the saints are; but by office, being ministers of the word: wherefore it follows, which show unto us the way of salvation"; which is not by the works of men; for by them the justice of God cannot be satisfied, nor his law fulfilled; God has declared against this way of salvation; it would make void the death of Christ, and frustrate the design of God in it; which is to magnify his grace, and exclude boasting in man: to which may be added, that the best works of men being imperfect, and attended with much sin, would rather damn than save; wherefore it is sinful, dangerous, and vain, to attempt salvation in this way.
The only way of salvation is by the Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the law is fulfilled, satisfaction is made for sin, peace and pardon are procured, an everlasting righteousness is brought in, and through whom grace and glory are given: and this is a way of salvation, agreeable to all the perfections of God; in which the vilest sinner made sensible of his sins, and of his need of this, has no reason to despair; it is exceeding suitable to his case, and is a way in which none ever perish, that are directed to it: and now this way of salvation is only shown in the Gospel, by the ministers of it; not by the light of nature, for to men who only have that, it is foolishness; nor by the law of Moses, for to such who are under that, it is a stumbling block; nor by the carnal reason of men, it is not of men, nor after men, but by divine revelation: and therefore the natural man receives it not, it is hid from such; and therefore they project various ways of salvation, which are pleasing in their own eyes, but the end of them are the ways of death; the way to life and immortality, is only brought to light in the Gospel: whether she said this of her own accord, or was obliged to it by divine impulse; and whether it was through fear of Paul, and in flattery to him, or was with a good or bad design, is not easy to determine: however, certain it is, what she said was truth; and sometimes the devil himself, the father of lies, is obliged to speak it."
Just as there were genuine cases in the bible, there are genuine exponents of the ‘dark arts’ today. Probably more than at any other time because we no longer exterminate them but in many cases revere them. To get back to our question, NO! It is not good for a Christian to be involved in any way with astrology or any of it’s siblings. At the very least it will provoke the chastening of God and at the worst, lose eternity for you. I know many look on ‘star signs’ as harmless nonsense, but it isn’t. Be warned! Don’t play with the Devil’s toys.
May God bless you and increase understanding of His Holy Word
As far as I am concerned, star signs are false gods. I used to believe in horoscopes when I were younger, but I realized that they were all false Gods and I turned to real God.
I know that God, and God alone, is the omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscience power. There is no other power but God in the entire universe. God has asked us to "lean on" him.
Furthermore, by believing in star signs one gives his or her power to false Gods and thus he is vulnerable by negative forces of the devil. When we place our faith in God, God also makes sure that we are protected and nothing bad shall fall upon ourselves.
Oft these star predictions are negative by their nature, but Jesus taught us to expect only good.

The Bible clearly says that sorcery, astrology, and all alike are forbidden.
Absolutely not. It's astrology and forbidden in the Bible.
I remember being asked what sign I was only once, a few years ago. It came out before I even had time to think. My reply was, "I am under the sign of the cross." My friend was stunned! Friends, people who dabble in the stars are searching. Why not use this opportunity to be a witness of the maker and keeper of the stars, Jesus Christ.
Why look to the created ,when you can go to the Creator of all ? To put no other god's before Him.
In all His love,
No, it isn't good. Following the star signs is a form of sorcery which is against the Lord's word......(Isaiah 47: 12-15) says, "Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror. All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. Here are no coals to warm anyone; here is no fire to sit by. That is all they can do for you these you have labored with and trafficked with since childhood. Each of them goes on in his error; there is not one that can save you.
Also, (Daniel 2: 27-28) says, "No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.
Also, (Leviticus 20:6-7) says, I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them, and I will cut him off from his people. Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the Lord, who makes you holy.
Also, (Galatians 5: 19-21) says, The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
May This Be A Blessing!!!
No, I don't think it is appropriate, because as Christians, our lives are hid in Christ, and we are supposed to look to Him to guide our way, not the Horoscopes. Respectfully yours,
I, as a Christian, think it is totally out of "character" for a child of God to have anything to do with astrology. When anyone asks me what sign I am born under, I reply "The Cross". I stand on the scripture that states if we are in Christ we are a new creation, old things have passed away, behold ALL things become new.
In Christ's Love,
No I do not believe in following the signs. We must be very careful what we let our mind feed on. I wont read my daily Horoscope. Bless you
Dear Rob, I do not believe that Christians should say that they were born under a sign of the Zodiac since there is a passage in the Old Testament that we should keep the "days" as the pagans do and the Zodiac is pagan.
When I am asked what sign I was born under, I always say the "sign of the cross." God bless,
I don't think Christians should identify themselves with zodiac signs. To do so will lead people to think that we believe in them and what they stand for, e.g. the astrological future readings, etc.
I think the signs Christian should identify with are: the cross (but not to use it as some kind of charm or anything like that), the Sabbath and the Bible.
First I would like to give some words: such as
Soothsayer: A diviner, a fortune teller.
prognosticators: Those who profess to know the future.
necromancer: one who inquires of the dead.
familiar spirit: spirit or demon that prompts an individual.
enchanter: sorcerer or witch.
divination: attempt to foretell the unknown by occult means.
witchcraft: the practice of sorcery.
In Daniel Chapter 2 verse 27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king? They could not but Daniel could. In verse 19 of the same chapter it was revealed in a night vision.
In Acts 16 verse 16 A demon cast out: Paul and Silas were beaten. And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The same followed Paul and Silas and cried saying These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. The demons even know God's people.
The vision of Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4 verse 7 Couldn't be revealed by the: Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers, and I told the dream before them but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.
In Micah 5 verse 12 in the kingdom age: And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.
In Isaiah 47 verses 13,14, Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold, they shall be as stubble the fire shall burn them they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame there shall not be a coal to warm at nor fire to sit before it.
Deuteronomy 18 verses 10, 11, 12, Idolatrous practices forbidden. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire or that useth divination or an observer of times or an enchanter or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
I Samuel 28 verses 7,9,11,12,15, Saul and the witch of Endor: Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit that I may go to her and enquire of her. And his servants said to him Behold there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor. And the woman said unto him Behold thou knowest what Saul hath done how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits. and the wizards out of the land wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life to cause me to die. Then said the woman Whom shall I bring up unto thee and he said Bring me up Samuel. And when the woman saw Samuel she cried with a loud vice saying Why hast thou deceived me for thou art Saul. And Samuel said to Saul Why hast thou disquieted me to bring me up and Saul answered I am sore distressed for the Philistines make war against me and God is departed from me and answereth me no more, neither by prophets nor by dreams therefore I have called thee that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.
So to attempt to foretell the unknown by occult means which is divination is considered as: System of fraud>Ezek 13;6,7, Lucrative Employment:>Acts 16;16, Abomination:>Deut18;11,12, Punishable by death:>Lev 20;6, 27, It is and was practiced by; Astrologers.........Is 47;13,......Charmers.........Deut18;11,.....Consulters.........Deut 18;14, .....Enchanter.....Deut 18;10,.....False prophets......Jer14,14,......Magicians.....Gen41,8, .......Necromancer......Deut 18;11.....Soothsayers........Is 2;6,..........Sorcerers.....Acts 13; 6,8,........Witch.......Ex 22;18,.........Wizard.....Deut 18;11.
I personally believe that horoscopes are bogus and a good money making operation. As a Catholic Christian, I do not think that any Christian should put any importance on the horoscope. If I say that I am a Christian, then I believe that my life is in the hands of God. God, because I have asked him to, leads and guides my every step. To believe in a horoscope is to undermine the power of God. Isn't He enough? How could stars and planets have more power over your life than the creator of the universe? To believe in a horoscope is to deny the power that you have over your own life; life is what you make of it. Each one of us was created by God for a purpose; each of us has a free will to choose whether to fulfill that purpose or not.
Place your hope and trust in God, He will not disappoint you.
